Welcome to Panther’s Cross Country!
Welcome to Panther’s Cross Country! This is the first year for any program like this at the middle school level and we are very excited to offer this opportunity.
Students and parents will need to complete several steps prior to participating in middle school sports, including:
- A completed FCPS Middle School Sports Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination Form (PPE). The exam must be completed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant. Please note that the form must be dated on or after May 1, 2023 for the 2023-2024 school year.
- A completed MS Sports Participant Registration form, which also requires parents and athletes to review the FCPS Student-Athlete Athletic Health Education Program.
- Student-athletes in FCPS are required to be covered by medical insurance. If your student is not covered by another plan, here is an option to consider.
- Each student-athlete and a parent/guardian will complete a registration process that includes the state-mandated concussion education program and Emergency Care Card information before the student participates in middle school sports.
- All of the above must be completed before athletes are eligible to practice.
- Athletes must complete four full practices before being eligible to participate in the inter-scholastic events.
Please submit all forms to the Athletics Coordinator in the RCMS main office.
Practices are held after school until 3:25pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Scheduled Meets for the 2023-2024 Cross Country Season:
- September 30
- October 14
- October 21
- October 28
All meets are on Saturday mornings, between 8:30am to 12:30pm, with specific times and locations to be communicated as scheduled.
Busses will be provided for Saturday meets. ALL athletes MUST ride the bus from Rachel Carson to each meet location and return to RCMS on the bus. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend the meets to cheer on their athlete, and will need to drop off and pick up their student from Rachel Carson Middle School.
We will need parent volunteers at both home and away meets so if you are able to help out, please contact the Athletics Coordinator.
Spring Sports will be expanded to Track and Field events, with details posted as announced.
We look forward to an exciting season!
