Rachel Carson Middle School After-School Program Overview

Rachel Carson Middle School offers a robust afterschool program, offering a diverse range of activities and intramural sports for our students.  Our goal is to provide quality programming in the areas of academic support and enrichment, social skills and youth development, physical health and wellness, and family and community involvement.

Our shared philosophy is that students who engage in after school activites are more likely to develop positive attitudes towards school, achieve full academic potential, and become productive citizens. Students are encouraged to maintain a balance between their instructional studies, after-school activities, and other outside interests.  Throughout the course of this school year, your child will have an opportunity to get involved in an array of clubs, volunteer opportunities, and recreational activities.

All after-school information will be posted on the RCMS website, on Schoology, and displayed on the TV’s around the school.

Late Buses

Students will be provided bus transportation home on late bus days Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays.  Bus stops differ from the regular bus stops. Students should check SIS to find their late bus numbers. Late bus number will say RCLR (Rachel Carson Late Run). Parent Pick-Up. Students may be picked up by parents at any time. All students must be picked up by 4:45.

Student Responsibilities

After school activities are an extension of the school day and all students must follow the Student Rights and Responsibilities Code of Conduct. Additionally, all students must sign in upon arrival to their activity for safety and accountability purposes. Students are not permitted to order food or have food delivered from any food delivery service.

Activity Priority

After school programs have been expanded to a five-day schedule to help alleviate potential conflicts and allow students an opportunity to access a broader range of offerings. If a conflict exists, students should honor their commitment for academic assistance in their core or high school credited subjects (math, science, social studies, English, or foreign language) before participating in after school activities.
