Hello RCMS Students and Families,

My name is Karla Chustz and I will be working with the 7^th grade Legacy and 8th grade Voyagers teams.  This is my fifth year as a counselor and my third year here at Rachel Carson. Before I came to Carson, I was a high school counselor and, previously, a math teacher for 15 years. My husband retired from the Air Force, and we settled here in Virginia. We have two sons; one lives in San Francisco and the other just completed graduate school and is now back in the area and a cat named Mochi. I am originally from outside of Cleveland OH... and yes, I am a secret Browns fan.  I earned my undergraduate degree at Hampton University, an MBA at Case Western Reserve University, and M.Ed. at George Mason University.  I switched careers from software developer to educator and have loved every year as a teacher and counselor. I enjoy working with and supporting students. There's nothing better than watching children grow into responsible and empathetic young adults. My favorite things to do are to go on long walks, practice Yoga and Pilates, travel, and try new foods.  I am very excited to work with you, helping your students become their best selves.
