Ms. Beth Schires

My name is Beth Schires and I will be the counselor for the Champions (7th Grade), Discovery (8th) and will be splitting the Dream Team (7th Grade) with Ms. Ghafori.  This is my 4th  year as a counselor at Rachel Carson Middle School and my 16th year as a counselor in Fairfax County Public Schools.  Prior to coming to Rachel Carson, I worked at Fairview Elementary School in Fairfax Station for 12 years.  I am born and raised right here in Fairfax County.  I grew up in Burke, VA and graduated from Robinson Secondary.  I received my Bachelors in Psychology and a Master’s in Education Counseling, both from George Mason University.  I have two kiddos, my son Brooks is 12 and going into the 6th grade (Middle School in Prince William County) and my daughter Aubrey is 9 and is going into the 4th grade.  We are a huge sports family as my son plays travel baseball and football and my daughter plays travel soccer and softball.  We are also a swim team family during the summer.  When I am not at one of the sports fields, I love to be outside, run, yard work and complete DYI projects at my house with my husband.  My husband, Dave and I met in highschool and have been married for 15 years.  I became a school counselor because I had a phenomenal school counselor when I was in middle school who made such an impact and difference in my life.  I love making connections with my students, advocating for them, while helping them learn to advocate for themselves and overall being a trusted adult at school to any and all students.  I look forward to supporting and making connections with my students and families this school year.
